This process takes place in the green substance in plants — called chlorophyll. When the chlorophyll reacts with the carbon di-oxide in the presence of sunlight, it is able to break down the light energy into sugar which it stores in its cells and uses as food. Carbon-di-oxide is harmful for Man, and by this process plants during the day reduce the carbon di-oxide from the air. As a by product, it is giving out oxygen at night, thereby purifying the air for Man. Chlorophyll looks green because it absorbs red and blue light.
