The process of photosynthesis is complex and results in a plant being able to turn light energy into sugar molecules that the plant can use to grow. Chlorophyll absorbs light and enters an excited state, in order to start the reaction of photosynthesis. Chlorophyll molecules cluster together to form a photosynthetic unit.

What is the next step necessary to explain how chlorophyll molecules, inside the chloroplasts, are able to turn light into a form of energy the plant cell can use?

A. reaction center makes chemical energy
B. energy is passed on to the reaction center chlorophyll
C. photosynthetic unit becomes activated
D. reaction center becomes excited
