Find - his present age.

Solution - The present age of Ravi is 6 years old.

Let the present age of Ravi be x. Then his age five years ago was (x - 5). The age of Ravi after ten years will be (x + 10).

Now, as per the question-

(x - 5)*(x + 10) = 16

Solving the equation for the value of x.

x² + 10x - 5x - 50 = 16

x² + 5x - 66 = 0

x² + 11x - 6x - 66

x (x + 11) -6 (x + 11)

(x + 11) (x - 6)

Thus, the value of x is 6 and -11. As age can not be negative, so, the present age of Ravi is 6 years old.
