Answer:

let the two numbers be x& y

given,

xy=800 (i)

x-y=20

x=20+y

putting it in (i)

(20+y) y =800

20y+y^2=800

y^2+20y-800=0

by splitting the middle term

y^2+(40-20)y-800=0

y^2+40y-20y-800=0

y(y+40)-20(y+40)=0

(y-20)(y+40)

so, y=20or-40

but it is impossible to be the value in negative

hence, y= 20

now,

x=20+y (proved above)

= 40

the two numbers are 20 & 40

Step-by-step explanation:

x+y=800

x-y=20

2x+0=820

2x=820

x=820/2

x=410

x+y=800

410+y=800

410-410+y=800-410

0+y=410

y=410

x+y=800

410+410=800

x+y=20
