(a) Take one number as x then the other one will be x+8 so the algebraic expression will be x(x+8)=384.

(b) From above x^2+8x=384

now, x^2+8x+16=384+16,

x^2+8x+16=400, that is (x+4)^2=400, or x+4=+20 or -20. If it is 20 then numbers are x=16 and x+8=24. If it is -20 then x is -24 and x+8=(-16).
