Step-by-step explanation:

let the 2 integers be a and b

so ab= -144

a+b= -7

a= -144/b

then,

-144/b+b= -7

-144+b*2= -7b

b*2 +7b -144

=b*2+16b-9b-144

=b(b+16)-9(b+16)

=(b-9)(b+16)

therefore b=9 and a= -16

therefore smallest number is -16
