Your two equations are: x + y = 144

and 2x -3y = 63

Add the second equation 2x - 3y = 63

Divide both sides by 5

So x=99 so if 99 + y = 144 then y = 144 - 99 or 45

Check: 99 + 45 = 144

2(99) - 3(45) = 198 - 135 + 63
