6

Given,

Product of 2 numbers = (-180)

One number = 12

Other number = ?

Let the other number be x

12 × x = -180

x = \frac{-180}{12}

x = (-15)

  • Product refers to the value obtained when 2 numbers are multiplied.
  • Let's take a simple example to understand this sum:

     2 × 3 = 6

Here, 2 is not given. How do we find the answer?

As we already know, product is obtained when 2 numbers are being multiplied, to find the other number we have to divide.

Now that we have understood the definition of product, let us perform the division.

Product = 6

one number = 3

other number = ?

other number = \frac{6}{3}

Hence the other number is 2.

Important points to note :

(-) × (-) = (+)

(+) × (-) = (-)

(-) × (+) = (-)

(+) × (+) = (+)

These points show that the product's sign will be according to the number which is being multiplied.

Example : 2 × (-3) = (-6) [ we saw that (+) × (-) = (-)]

Therefore it is always important to see the sign and the operation being performed to understand the sum.

❖ Here is your answer :)

Let "z" be the other a number.

  • According to given conditions,

 \; \; \; \;

:\implies 12 \times z = (-180)

:\implies 12z = (-180)

:\implies z = \dfrac{(-180)}{12}

:\implies z = -\dfrac{(12 \times 15)}{12}

:\implies z = -15

\boxed{\bold{\orange{:\implies z = -15 } } }
