We have to find the LCM of two numbers x and y.

Solution,

The LCM of two numbers x and y are 3024 and the HCF is 72.

Let the HCF of x and y is 'a'

then LCM of x and y = 42 a

Using the relation,

HCF * LCM = x*y

     a * 42 a = 217728

         42 a²= 217728

              a² = 217728/42

              a²  = 5184

                a = 72

then, HCF = 72

        LCM = 72*42

                 = 3024

Hence, the LCM and HCF of x and y are 72 and 3024 respectively.
