the product of two successive multiplies of 5 is 300. determine the multiples.

Let a , ( a + 5 ) are two successive multiples

of 5 .

according to the problem given ,

product these numbers = 300

a( a + 5 ) = 300

a² + 5a - 300 = 0

a² + 20a - 15a - 300 = 0

a( a + 20 ) - 15( a + 20 ) = 0

( a + 20 )( a - 15 ) = 0

a + 20 = 0 or a - 15 = 0

a = -20 or a = 15

Now ,

Required two numbers are

1 ) If a = -20 ,

a + 5 = -20 + 5 = -15

2 )If a = 15 ,

a + 5 = 15 + 5 = 20

Let two successive multiple of 5 is ( X) and ( X+5).




According to question,



(X) × ( X+5) = 300


X² +5X = 300


X² +5X -300 = 0



X² +20X -15X -300 = 0


X ( X +20) -15( X +20) = 0



(. X+20) ( X -15) = 0



( X+20) = 0 OR ( X-15) = 0



X = -20 OR X = 15



Hence,



First Number = X = 15


and,



Second number = X +5 = 20
