hey there !!

The production bof sugarcane in 2012 was 216 million .

now , as given situation is that annual growing rate of production of sugar cane in percentage is 8%

therefore ,

8% of 216million = 21600000/100×8 = 1728000 .

so , we got it 17.2 million production increasing per year .

now ,

in production in 2011 = production in 2012- 8% of 2012 production .

=> production in 2011 = 216 - 17.2 = 198.8 million tonnes .

hope it helps you !!

SOLUTION -

Let the production of sugarcane in 2011 be x million tonnes

then, the production of sugarcane in 2012

⟹ x + 8% of x

⟹x +  \dfrac{8}{100}  \times x =  \dfrac{108x}{100}

⟹ \dfrac{27x}{25}

Production of sugarcane in 2012 = 216 million tonnes

⟹ \dfrac{27x}{25}  = 216

⟹ \dfrac{216 \times 25}{27}

⟹ 200

Hence, the production of sugarcane in 2011 was 200 million tonnes.
