Sale price of article is Rs. 625.

Given - profit, loss and profit percentage

Find - Sale price

Solution - Let the cost price of article be x. Now, relating the profit and loss of the article to find the value of x or cost price.

We know, Profit = Selling price - Cost price

Loss = Cost price - Selling price

Keep the values and equate the two equations -

600 - x = x - 400

Shifting the values of equation

600 + 400 = x + x

Performing addition on both sides fo equation

1000 = 2x

x =  \frac{1000}{2}

Performing Division

x = 500

Hence, the cost price of article is Rs. 500.

Now, calculating final selling price.

Selling price =  \frac{100 +profit\% }{100}  \times cost \:  price

Keep the values in equation

Selling price =  \frac{100 + 25}{100}  \times 500

Selling price =  \frac{125}{100}  \times 500

Cancelling zero from both numerator and denominator

Selling price = 125 \times 5

Selling price = Rs. 625

Hence, the selling price of article will be Rs. 625.
