Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The numbers of smart phones he sold=5

The number of old mobiles he sold=?

Let the number of old mobiles he sold=x

Net Profit=217900

Profit gained from selling one smart phone=32500

Total Profit gained from selling the 5 smart phones=(5*32500)

                                                                                     =162,500

Profit gained from selling one old mobile=3900

Total Profit gained from selling the x old mobiles=(x*3900)

                                                                                 =3900x

Net profit= total profit from smart phones + total profit from old mobiles

217900 = 162500 + 3900x

Collect like terms by taking 162500 to the other side of the equation to meet 217900. 162500 becomes negative We have:

217900 - 162500 = 3900x

55400 = 3900x

Divide both sides by 3900

(55400 ÷ 3900) = (3900x ÷ 3900)

14.2 = x

x = 14.2

x ≅ 14

Therefore, the shopkeeper sold about 14 old mobiles
