Atomic no. because properties of an element is periodic function of its atomic no.

Anoosha12: But it's answer is C.
AnKit10151015: yes u r right because it also depends on electronic configuration because groups are made on basis of electronic configuration so properties of elements depends on electronic configuration.Eg.Alkali metals are in same group hence their Valence electrons are same and they hv same properties ,so sorry the answer shouldbe C

Answer: The correct answer is Option C.

Explanation:

There are 3 types of elements present in the periodic table.

1. Metals: These are the elements which loose electrons easily and form positive ions.0

2. Metalloids: These are the elements which show both the properties of metals and non-metals. they can loose electrons and form positive ions or they can gain electrons and can form negative ions.

3. Non-metals: These are the elements which can gain electrons easily and form negative ions.

The number of electrons gained or lost is judged by electronic configuration of elements only and hence, the property of an element depends on electronic configuration.

Therefore, the correct answer is Option C.
