The constituent elements of water are hydrogen and oxygen.

Hydrogen is an inflammable substance, i.e it burns. Whereas oxygen supports burning. These properties are completing different from that of water, which extinguishes fire.

The characteristic properties of these elements are different from those of water, however hydrogen and oxygen have some common properties. They are both colorless and odorless gases.
