Soil Conservation is protecting the soil from erosion, and getting it polluted. It means a judicious and planned use of soil, as well as avoiding the wastage, misuse, overuse, damage and destruction of the soil.

Soil Conservation Techniques :-

Various soil conservation techniques are as follows -

1. Shelter belts are made in coastal or dry regions where rows of tall trees are planted around the farms to act as wind break and check soil erosion.

2. Afforestation for checking spread of the desert and checking soil erosion. The roots of the plants hold the soil together.

3. Avoiding overgrazing by cattle is important as it leads to barren land and, vulnerable to erosion by the wind and rain.

4. Water management helps to simulate back and leads to higher crop yield.

5. Making rock dams will prevent floods and control the flow of water.

  • Mulching
  • Contour bunding
