The purpose of plumb line in physical balance in the hands of a Mason is same. If so, what is that purpose? If it is absent in the physical balance what happens to the mass of the body measured in the balance?

Answer:

Physical balance is a weight measuring device.

It is used to find the weight of a unknown object by using another object with known weight.

The physical balance works on the principle of moments.

Principle of moments states that sum of anti clock wise moments is equal to sum of clock wise moments.

Explanation

The plumb line indicates whether the balance is horizontal.

In a perfect condition, the plumb line is aligned with the top of knob fixed to the pillar.

When the beam is horizontal the pointer remains on zero mark on the ivory scale.

The device is enclosed in a very glass box to avoid the consequences of wind.

Before using  balance, the plumb line is brought just above the pointed projection by adjusting the levelling screws at the base.

It consists of a mass suspended by a string in order to check whether the balance is horizontal.

In horizontal equilibrium, the pointer in the ivory scale shows zero reading.

For applying principle of moments, the system should be in horizontal equilibrium.

Otherwise it will measure the unknown object's weight as wrong
