we \: have \: the \: equation : -  \\  \\  {x}^{2}  - 12x + 9 = 0 \\  \\ here \:  \:  \:  \: a = 1 \:  \:  \:  \: b =  - 12 \:  \:  \:  \: c = 9

now \: to \: find \: the \: nature \: of \: the \: roots \\ we \: have \: the \: formula : -  \\  \\ d =  {b}^{2}  - 4ac

so \:  \:  \:  \: d \:  =  {( - 12)}^{2}  - 4 \times 1 \times 9 \\  \\ d = 144 - 36 \\  \\ d = 108

As we know if d = any positive number then the roots are distinct and real.

So, the given statement is false as the roots of this polynomial are distinct and real.
