Statement (1) alone is sufficient but statement (2) alone is insufficient to find Manoj's position.

STATEMENT 1

Akash is taller than Piyush and Piyush is taller than Manoj. Manoj is not the shortest.

  • In this statement, we are told that
  1. Akash is taller than Piyush
  2. Piyush is taller than Manoj
  3. Manoj is not the shortest
  • So we can conclude that Aakash is the tallest and Nitesh is the shortest.
  • So the increasing order of their height is:

                   Nitesh < Manoj < Piyush < Aakash

  • So, Manoj is in the 2nd position.

Hence, this statement alone was sufficient to find Manoj's position.

STATEMENT 2

Nitesh is smaller than Manoj and Piyush. Nitesh is the shortest and Piyush is the tallest.

  • In this statement we are told:
  1. Nitesh is smaller than Manoj
  2. Nitesh is smaller than Piyush
  3. Piyush is the tallest
  4. Nitesh is the smallest
  • This statement alone is insufficient as no information about Aakash's height is given.
  • So we cannot ascertain the increasing order of their heights as we only know the shortest and tallest boys. No relation has been established between Manoj and Aakash's heights.
  • Hence, we cannot find Manoj's position.

Thus, statement 1 alone is sufficient but statement 2 alone is insufficient to find Manoj's position.
