let the two numbers be x & y respectively...
condition (1)
x + y = 3500--------- i
condition (2)
6% of x = 8% of y
i.e. 6x - 8y =0---------ii
multiplying equation i with 8 and,
solving i & ii
8x + 8y = 28000
6x - 8y = 0
______________
14x = 28000
x = 2000
substituting the value of x in equation i
x + y = 3500
2000 + y = 3500
y = 3500 - 2000
y = 1500
