Answer should be C) mg/4
Let, the mass of rod is M
and mass of part of rod on table be m.
Then,
We can say, if mass is uniformly distributed
that, M/m = L / (L/4)
so, we get m = M/4
Now, gravity acting on that small part is
mg, hence Normal reaction will be mg.
Now substituting value of m,
we get, N = Mg/4

kumaripalak05: I think that will be the case when road is attached to string. When the string is cut the normal reaction will be different.
alvincarter: No, when string is attached there will be a tension force of string on the rod. But, when string is cut, it will normally obeys Force of gravitation and nothing much. If you still have doubt then you can ask! :)
