Given

  • radii of two circles are 8 cm and 12 cm
  • distance between their centres is 15 cm

To find

  • many points do these circles intersect.

Solution

we are provided with the radius of two circles and the distance between the centre of them.

we know that Circle to intersect exactly at 1 point the distance between the centres of the circle must be equal to the sum of the radii of both of circle.

But in this case, some of radii of circles is 20cm

and the distance between the centres as given is 15cm

therefore it is clear that the two circles does not Intetsect exactly at one point. Also, the sum of radius of two circle is greater than the distance between the centers of the circle, it becomes evident that the two circles intersects

Therefore we can conclude that the circles intersects exactly at 2 points
