Given :-

The ratio of the present age of father and son is 8:3 and after 10 year this ratio become 2:1

To Find :-

Present ages

Solution :-

Let their ages be 8y and 3y

After 10 years

8y + 10/3y + 10 = 2/1

1(8y + 10) = 2(3y + 10)

8y + 10 = 6y + 20

8y - 6y = 20 - 10

2y = 10

y = 10/2

y = 5

Therefore

Age of father = 8y = 8(5) = 40 years

40 years

Explanation:

In present,

let father and son be 8x and 3x

After ten years,

father and son will be 8x + 10 and 3x + 10

Solving the equation,

(8x+10)/(3x + 10) = 2/1

(using cross multiplying method)

(8x + 10) × 1 = (3x + 10) × 2

8x + 10 = 6x +20

8x - 6x = 20 - 10

2x = 10

x = 5

the present age of father will be 8x = 8×5 = 40 years

Hope it's helpful for you!
