Radio waves and microwaves have greater wavelengths (kilometers and meters to centimeters and milimeters), but x rays and gamma rays have relatively short wavelengths (billionths or trillionths of a meter). The heat we feel when we hold our hand near a heated object is infrared radiation, which has longer wavelengths than visible light. Visible light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength range that human eyes can detect. Red light has a wavelength of 0.0007 milimetres, orange, yellow, green, and blue light has a wavelength of 0.0004 milimeters, and violet light has a wavelength of 0.0004 milimeters.
