the radius of a circle is 8 cm and the lenght of one of the chord is 12cm. Find the distance of chord from the centre

By Pythagoras Theorem,

Radius^{2} = (half of chord)^{2}  + distance^{2}

putting the values,

8^{2}  = (12/2) ^{2} + distance^{2}


64 = 36 + distance ^{2}



64 - 36 = distance^{2}


28 =distance^{2}



 \sqrt{28}  = distance

2 \sqrt{7}  = distance

Now,

 the distance is 2 \sqrt{7} cm
