The value of x is 6.93 cm (approximately).

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

In the figure given below,

radius ao = 3.1 cm

op=x cm

ap=6.2 cm

x = ?

In Δaop, ao ⊥ ap        [Tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact]

∴ Δaop is a right−angled triangle with ∠oap = 90°.

Using Pythagoras' Theorem.

(ao)^2+(ap)^2=(op)^2\\

(3.1)^2 + (6.2)^2 = op^2

9.61+38.44=op^2

48.05 = op^2

op=\sqrt{48.05} cm

op = 6.93 cm (approximately).
