Given: Radius of cation is 164 pm

            Radius of cation is 126 pm.

To Find: Coordination number of oxide ion

Explanation:

The coordination number of ion in any compound can be calculated by the ratio of size of cation to  size of anion.

radius of cation = r^{+}

radius of anion= r^{-}

if the ratio lies is less than 0.225 then coordination number is 2

0.225-0.414 : coordination number would be 4

Ratio 0.414 - 0.732 : CN 6

Ratio 0.732- 1.000 : CN 8

Tl^{+} = 164 pm\\O^{-2} = 126 pm

\frac{r^{+} }{r^{-} } = \frac{164}{126} = 1.3015

Ratio is 1.3015 hence coordination number is 2
