Given : The railway is in the shape of an arch, at an angle of 28 °.

the radius of the inner edge is 28.55m and the width of the railway is 1.44m,

To find : the difference in length of the outer and the inner edge of the railway

Solution:

inner radius = 28.55 m

outer radius = 28.55 + 1.44 = 29.99  m

Difference in   length of the outer and the inner edge of the railway

= ( angle / 360°) 2π ( outer radius - inner radius )

=  ( 28/360 ) * 2 * π ( 29.99 - 28.55)

= ( 28/360 ) * 2 * π  * 1.44

= ( 28/360 ) * 2 * (22/7)  * 1.44

= 0.704 m

the difference in length of the outer and the inner edge of the railway = 0.704 m
