Given : The rainfall recorded in a city for 60 days

To Find :   the median rainfall.

Solution:

Rainfall (In cm)  No. of days   Cumulative Days

0 -10                          16                     16

10 – 20                     10                     26

20 – 30                     8                      34

30 – 40                     15                     49

40 – 50                     5                     54

50 – 60                      6                     60

60/2 = 30  lies in  interval 20 - 30

Median = 20  + 10 x ( 60/2  - 26)/8

= 20 + 10 * 4 / 8

= 20 + 5

= 25

median rainfall.  = 25 cm
