India is a hot country. We have the Indian Ocean to the south of our country. In summer, the air becomes very hot. It rises very high in the sky and in its place winds, full of moisture, come from the south. They strike against the mountains and bring rains. These winds are called monsoon winds, and the season is called the monsoon season or the rainy season.
The rainy season in India lasts from July to September. Sometimes it rains heavily for days together. We cannot see the sun. The clouds sun in the sky freely. They are of dark color. The clouds are so dark that sometimes even the middle of the day also seems like night.
When the first rain falls, the whole earth becomes happy. Everybody goes mad with joy. The frogs croak in the rain water loudly. The farmers go out with their bullocks. They plough their fields, within a few days the whole earth becomes green with grass and plants. They leaves of all trees and plants get washed. The scenery is very beautiful and soothing to our eyes. The animals are also happy. They graze happily on the green grass. Rare sights like the rainbow and peacock can be seen.
These are some disadvantages also in the rainy season. Many new insects are born. In the evening small moths gather round our lamps. They make it impossible for us to read and write. We can see grass-hopper, snakes, earthworms and other insects. The roads are floods in many rivers. Crops get destroyed because of excessive rain. Poor people have no shelter. Some houses fall down.
