Actually to solve these type of problems you need to know the range of all possible values for cos©,sin©,tan©,cot©, cosec©, sec©.

We know, -1<=cos©<=1

So the highest value of cos© is 1 and lowest value is -1. putting this values in the function,y=1+3cos2x we get range, R= { y:y belongs to R and -2<=y<=4 }

Similarly -1<=sin©<=1 and value of tan© can be any real (R) number.
