this happened because they needed more oxygen to breath because you know that the formula of water is H2O in this there are two molecules of hydrogen and one Molecule of oxygen this made the oxygen much less in comparison of terrestrial organisms so they breath faster because they need more oxygen.

Aquatic organisms use oxygen dissolved in surrounding water . Since air dissolved in water has fairly low concentration of oxygen , the aquatic organisms have much faster rate of breathing .

Terrestrial organisms take oxygen from
