It is easy for a terrestrial organism to get oxygen directly from air for which their breathing rate is slow. But an aquatic organism get oxygen dissolved water for which they have high breathing rate. This is the advantage of terrestrial organism over aquatic organism for obtaining oxygen for respiration. Therefore the rate of breathing in aquatic organism is much faster than terrestrial organism.
