The rate of kill for any Bacteria is a 1st order reaction.

Explanation:

  • According to Chick's law of disinfection, the number of bacteria killed after chlorination of water follows a first order Kinetic reaction.
  • Here the rate of the bacteria killed per unit time is dependent on the amount of bacteria which is initially present.
  • As a result the amount of bacteria gradually decreases by a proportion which is equal to the amount of bacteria present. Hence the graph obtained is an exponentially decreasing graph.
