The acceleration of the rocket in 2.5\ m/s^2.

Explanation:

It is given that,

The rate of mass of the gas emitted from rear of a rocket is  initially 0.1 kg/s

Speed of the gas relative to the  rocket is 50 m

Mass of the rocket, m = 2 kg

Mass per unit time is given by :

\dfrac{m}{t}=0.1

\dfrac{2}{t}=0.1

t = 20 seconds

Let a is the acceleration of the rocket. It is given by :

a=\dfrac{v-u}{t}

Initial speed, u = 0

a=\dfrac{v}{t}

a=\dfrac{50\ m/s}{20\ s}

a=2.5\ m/s^2

So, the acceleration of the rocket in 2.5\ m/s^2. Hence, this is the required solution.
