Let 6 years ago the ages of X and Y be x and y.

Case 1: Suppose X was 9 and Y, 8 years six years ago their present ages will be X = 9+6 = 15 and Y = 8+6 =14, and 6 years hence the their ages will be X =21 and Y=20.

Case 2: Suppose X was 18 and Y 16 years six years ago their present ages will be X = 18+6 = 24 and Y = 16+6 =22, and 6 years hence the their ages will be X =24+6 = 30 and Y=22+6 = 28.

Case 3: Suppose X was 27 and Y 24 years six years ago their present ages will be X = 27+6 = 33 and Y = 24+6 =30, and 6 years hence the their ages will be X =33+6 = 39 and Y=30+6 = 36.

I could go on and on….
