the ratio between copper and zinc in an alloy is 5:7 .if the weight of zinc is 15.4 kg, find the weight of copper in the alloy​

Given:

The ratio between copper and zinc = 5:7

Weight of zinc = 15.4 kg

To find:

The weight of copper

Solution:

Let,

The weight of copper be 5x and, the weight of zinc be 7x

Therefore, from the ratio we get,

7x = 15.4

Therefore,

x = 15.4/7

  = 2.2

Now, the weight of copper

= 5x

= (5)(2.2)        [Putting the value of x]

= 11kg             [The unit given in the question is kg]

Checking the answer (Rough Work)

Putting the weights of copper and zinc in the ratio,

11/15.4 = 5/7  [Which is the given ratio]

Thus, the weight of copper in the alloy is 11kg.
