The ratio between the ages of x and y today is 20:1, six years later, the ratio of their ages will be 5:1. Find the age of X today? With working

given here

The ratio between the ages of x and y today is 20:1,

x:y= 20:1

or,

x/y= 20/1

=>x-20y=0. ...(1)

and ,

six years later, the ratio of their ages will be 5:1.

so,

x+6 : y+6= 5:1

or,

(x+6)/(y+6) = 5/1

=>x+6 = 5(y+6)

=>x+6 = 5y+30

=>x-5y= 24. ....(2)

now ,

equation (1) - (2)

we get,

-15y = -24

y= 24/15

and

by (1),

x= 20×24/15

= 4×24/3

= 4×8

=32

so,

age of x in present will be

32 years
