Step-by-step explanation:

Given The ratio between the length and breadth of a rectangle is 2:1. If 3 cm is added to each length and breadth of the rectangle, the new perimeter of of the rectangle is 12 cm more  than the perimeter of the original rectangle. Find the length and breadth of the original  rectangle.

  • Given ratio of length and breadth of a rectangle is 2:1
  • So let the length of rectangle be 2a and breadth be a
  • According to the question we have 3 cm added to length and breadth we get
  •   2a + 3 and a + 3
  • Therefore perimeter of the rectangle = 2(l + b)
  •                                                            = 2(2a + 3 + a + 3)
  •                                                            = 2(3a + 6)
  •                                                             = 6a + 12
  • Also  the new perimeter of the rectangle is 12 cm more  than the perimeter of the original rectangle.
  • so 6a + 12 = (2a + 3) + 12
  •    6a + 12 = 12 + 2a + 3
  •   6a - 2a = 3
  •  Or 4a = 3
  •  Or a = 3/4
  •   2a = 2(3/4) = 3/2

Therefore length and breadth of rectangle will be 3/2 and 3/4
