Hi ,

Let at present ages of m and n are 5x and 3x

years

4 years ago M's age = ( 5x - 4 ) years

after 4 years n's age = ( 3x + 4 ) years

ratio of their ages = 1 : 1

( 5x - 4 ) : ( 3x + 4 ) = 1 : 1

5x - 4 = 3x + 4

5x - 3x = 4 + 4

2x = 8

x = 8/2

x = 4

Therefore b,

age of M's after 4 years = 5x + 4

= ( 5 × 4 ) + 4

= 20 + 4

= 24 years

n's age 4 years ago = 3x - 4

= ( 3 × 4 ) - 4

= 12 - 4

= 8 years

Required ratio = 24 years : 8 years

= 3 : 1

I hope this helps you.
