    or,   5x - 4 = 3x +4

present age of P = 5 x 4 = 20 and R = 3 x 4 = 12

P's age 4 years hence = 20 + 4 =24

R's age 4 years ago = 12 - 4 = 8

the required ratio = 24 : 8 =3 : 1
