Explanation:

Ratio of present ages of P:Q = 5:7

Let us assume P's age be 5x

and Q's age be 7x

and P's age after 6 years be 5x +

Then, given that

7x-( 5x+6 )= 2

7x - 5x - 6 = 2

2x = 2 + 6

x = 8 ÷ 2

x =4.

Then, P's present age is 5(4) = 20

Q's present age is 7(4) = 28

Total of P's and Q's age is 20+28 = 48

Explanation:

difference of age remains same.

P. Q

5x 7x

2x = 2

x = 1

P = 5x

5×1 = 5 yrs

Q = 7×1

Q = 7 yrs

7+ 5 = 12 yrs
