Hi ,
let one number = x
second number = 40 - x
according to the problem given,
ratio of to numbers = 3 : 5
x : ( 40 - x ) = 3 : 5
product of extrems = product of means
x × 5 = ( 40 - x ) 3
5x = 120 - 3x
5x + 3x = 120
8x = 120
x = 120 / 8
x = 15
Therefore ,
first number = x = 15
second number = 40 - x = 40 - 15 = 25
Therefore ,
larger number = 25
I hope this helps you.

Let the numbers be 3x & 5x.
A/q,
3x+5x=40
8x=40
x=40/8=5
So the numbers r =>3x=3×5=15 and
5x=5×5=25.
Hope it hlps.
