Give that there are two quantities which are in the ratio 3 : 5. So, let the actual value of both the quantities be '3x' and '5x'.

(i)  If the smaller quantity is made 4 times, then its value become 12x. Then the ratio will be

12x:5x=12:5.12x:5x=12:5.

the smaller quantity is doubled and larger is halved, then their values becomes 6x and 5/2x. So, their ratio will be

6x:\dfrac{5}{2}x=12:5.6x:25x=12:5.
