The ratio of Mg : S in magnesium sulphide should be 4:3 and Not 3:4.

Mg:S = 24x4 : 32x3 (multiplying by respective atomic masses)

= 96 g : 96 g

As they are reacting in 1:1 ratio of weights , their atoms will also be present in 1:1 ratio.

Thus molecular formula will be MgS
