Given :

point A(4,-3)

point B(7,3)

point C(8,5)

To Find :   The ratio in which B divides the line segment joining A and C is

Solution:

Let say point B divided  A and C  in m:n ratio

A(4,-3)   C(8,5)

7 =  ( 8m + 4n)/(m + n)    or  3  = (5m -3n)/(m + n)

=> 7m + 7n = 8m + 4n

=> m = 3n

=> m/n = 3

=> m : n = 3  : 1

 or  3  = (5m -3n)/(m + n)

=> 3m + 3n = 5m - 3n

=> 2m = 6n

=> m/n = 3

=>  m : n = 3  : 1

Hence point B divided A and C  in 3 :1 Ratio
