Let us take the given ratio be 7x : 3x .
Then , sum of their ages = 7x + 3x= 10x.
But it is given 60 years.
So , 10x = 60
or x = 60/10
Therefore x = 6
Age of mother = 7x = 7×6 =42
Age of son. = 3x = 3×6. = 18
So the difference of their ages = 42 - 18 = 24
Then , sum of their ages = 7x + 3x= 10x.
