Given : The ratio of alcohol and water in 53 litres of mixture is 5:3. Then 5 litres of the mixture is removed and replaced with water.

To Find :  the ratio of the alcohol and water in the resultant mixture is

O 13:18

O 21:30

O 5:3

O 30:23

Solution:

The ratio of alcohol and water in 53 litres of mixture is 5:3.

Alcohol  = (5/8) 53  = 265/8   litres

Water =  (3/8) 53  =   159/8    litres

5 litres of the mixture is removed and replaced with water

=> Water removed =  (3/8)5  = 15/8 litre

water added = 5 litre

Now water  =  159/8  - 15/8 + 5

= 144/8  + 40/8

= 184/8

= 23 litre

Alcohol = 53 - 23 = 30 litre

ratio of the alcohol and water in the resultant mixture  = 30 : 23
