Answer: 4:5

Step-by-step explanation:

Ratio of Apple to Orange = 2:3

Total number of fruits = 40

Let's find out exact number of apples and oranges

2+3 = 5

Therefore, 2/5*40= 16 ( Number of Apples)

3/5*40= 24 (Number of Orange)

Since ratio is 2:3 or 2/3 and 16/24 is also 2/3 { Dividing by 8}

According to ques, 4 Orange were rotten and were discarded

therefore, number of Orange = 24-4 = 20

Total number of fruits after discarding 4 Orange

40-4= 36

Now new ratio, 16/20 = 4/5 Ans

Significance, You can also calculate new ratio i.e.

4+5=9

4/9*36=16

5/9*36=20
