The ratio of boys and girls in a school is 5:3 if the total number of students is 1600 then find the number of boys and girls.
could anyone please give some hint through this question

no of boys:no of girls=5:3

let the no of boys be 5x and that of girls be 3x

total no of students=1600

according to the problem,

5x+3x=1600

8x=1600

x=1600/8=200

no of boys=5x=5×200=1000

no of girls=3x=3×200=600
